First do no harm... Medicine In the Extremes (MIE) would like to invite you to attend MIE 2018. The current course is to pursue and to bring perfection to MIE 2016 which was about the basics of Disaster management and ISEM 2015, a summer school on emergency medicine, the year before. In addition to these subjects MIE 2018 aims to introduce young physicians to the psychological skills of dealing with such situations, working in collaboration with the most pronounced experts from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and numerous others. This training program is held from March 28th until April 5th, Tehran, Iran. Our registration is now open until March 5th. Following two days of ice breaking and city tour to help participants get to know one another in an international atmosphere, the educational part of the event starts from the third day of the school. This year’s event consists of four main sections: • Emergency Medicine • Disaster Management ( in collaboration with UNHABITAT) • Psychology in Emergency ( in collaboration with HIP ) • A day with professionals MIE2018 will try to work towards the goals set based on the reviews from our previous events: Because of the successful performance of the training course and participants’ satisfaction, it is expected that more courses would be held in the future. The following goals are recommended for the upcoming events: • Building a team of disaster management trainers mostly consisting of of medical students nationally or internationally. • It was recommended to consider a much more validated certificate as a stronger motivator for the volunteers. • Based on this event and related events held by TUMS public health school, designing a 3 day course for medical students during their elective course in their curriculum is recommended.
